New Spusta Studio Shop

By the by – we have implemented a new Shop system that looks a bit like our previous model. Hopefully it can handle a bit more customer traffic than our last one, but it may be a few weeks until we have something new to release. There are few shirts available at the moment.

If you had an account with the Shop previously, that will no longer be a relevant sign-in and you may want to set-up a new account before we drop our next release.

Creature Caravan – customer lottery

Here’s a new screen print we made. Do you want to buy one? It seems a lot of folks want to get their hands on these creatures, so we will be choosing customers via this purchasing lottery here and now.

If you’re interested in putting your name in for one of these prints be sure to follow the instructions carefully. We made things slightly complicated again as an attempt to weed out some of the folks that aren’t paying as close of attention, or asking friends to enter for them.

Here’s some details about the prints:
28″ x 12″ screen print, Main Edition of 150 on a Metallic Shadow paper (there are also some variant editions). The imagery originally appeared last year as a Dave Matthews Band Caravan poster from the Gorge. We are going to ask that potential customers choose if they want to enter the lottery for the main edition or a random variant (most likely Squash). The Main Edition will cost $100 shipped(CONUS). The Variant Editions will cost $175 shipped(CONUS). Most the variants sent out will be of the Squash Edition of 38, but some variant customers will randomly receive one of the rarer blue variants.

Lotto Instructions:
• Interested customers may enter the purchasing lottery only once by posting a comment based on these instructions. Follow the instructions carefully and go for one successful, clean post the first time instead of making amendments to your original comment.
• You can comment anonymously, but be sure to use your Paypal email address. (Also, mention if you’re International shipping)
• Your comments should include the the 3 following things…..
1. What extinct animal do you find fascinating?

2. What’s your favorite, or least favorite Dave Matthews Band song?

3. Are you entering for a Main Edition -OR- Variant Edition?

• Customers will be selected through a random number generator system operated by the gnomes, anyone who follows the instructions is eligible.
• We will begin sending Paypal invoices to randomly selected Main Edition customers shortly after this lottery is live, with a few winners being selected to the next few days as well. The selection for the variant customers will actually begin next Wednesday!
• Lottery entries will be closed later tonight and commenting on this post will become inactive.

Sumfro Purchasing Lotto

Sumfro is back. This is a 10″ x 10″ screen print edition of 75 on metallic brown paper. This image was first printed last year as a multi-color 5″ x 5″ mini screen print.

Since there are very few of these prints to sell, we will be selecting customers randomly through this Purchasing Lotto Post.

Read the instructions on how to properly enter this lotto, there are some quirky requests.

Brown Metallic Edition of 75 is $55 + shipping.
Gold Variant of 15 is $125 + shipping.

-You can go for one or both of those options. Main Edition and/or Variant. There are not many variants available in this lotto. If you’d want a chance at the Gold too, just mention it in your comment/caption.

• Interested customers may enter the purchasing lottery only once by posting a comment that is a caption to this Sumfro image. If you opened a storybook to a page with Sumfro…what would the words read. Be creative, have fun with it. Some customers will be selected randomly, but Marq will also be selecting a handful of his favorite captions to be sent invoices as well.
• You can post anonymously, but be sure to use your Paypal email address. (Also, mention if you’re International shipping)
• Selected customers will be sent invoices through Paypal, they have 7 days to pay.
• Invoices will start going out right away…but will keep trickling out over time.
• If you’re comment doesn’t show up, it got caught up in our extra-tight spam filter. We will dig you out before we start picking “winning” customers.
• Keep it honest. Don’t use aliases or your gramma’s email.

Impromptu Listening Purchasing Lottery

This wasn’t the plan, but since our shop did not handle the traffic of our drop for this print, we offering up the rest of them in a purchasing lottery, being held here and now.

If you’re interested in putting your name in the hat for one of these prints, just check the details listed below and comment today. We have added some variants into the mix for this lotto. If were one of the lucky ones who picked up Listening today, you may still go for a variant as well.

Main Edition – Gold paper , edition of 333 is $45 + shipping.
[More than 75 left for the lottery]

Variant Editions – Black Edition of 78 or a random rarer variant is $85 + shipping. [More than 40 prints in lottery]

-You can go for one or both of those options. Main Edition and/or Variant

• Interested customers may enter the purchasing lottery only once by posting a comment with the prints they’re interested in.
• You can post anonymously, but be sure to use your Paypal email address. (Also, mention if you’re International shipping)
• Customers will be selected randomly, and invoices will be sent through Paypal.
• Invoices will start going out tonight…but will keep trickling out as the week unfolds.
• If you’re comment doesn’t show up, it got caught up in our extra-tight spam filter. We will dig you out before we start picking “winning” customers.
• Things that will increase your odds of not being selected as a customer would be: Commenting more than once. Using aliases is also highly annoying and we’ve banned a handful for trying it.

Purchasing Lottery – Dripples and Five Birds

Here’s is your first opportunity to try and purchase”Dripples” or “Five Birds”  , the two prints we hand-pulled at the Union a few weeks back. These screen prints are extremely limited and have their own unique qualities that are written about in the post below. If you’re interested in putting your name in the hat for one of these print purchases, just check the details listed below and comment today.

The two prints each have variant editions along with the main editions, all viewable in the photos above. We are asking interested customers to clearly and specifically choose a #1 and #2 choice to enter the lottery for….you can choose two prints to try for, but need to specify which colored papers you are going for. Here’s a few example entries that should help clarify what we are looking for….

“I’ll go for 1. Five Birds (pink) 2. Five Birds (green)” – or – “My top choice is a main edition Dripples, but if that’s not available I’ll go for the Yellow variant. (shipping to Oz)” – or- “1st: Five Birds (main Edition), 2nd choice: Dripples (main edition)”

There are some interesting fluctuating odds that will occur with different selections based on what everyone else puts in for. Were going to keep the prices the same amongst the main editions and variants to even make it trickier to choose what to enter for…..

-Five Birds = $140+ shipping.
[11 Five Birds prints in lottery – 8 Green (edition of 20), 2 White (edition of 9) & 1 Pink (edition of 4)]

-Dripples = $80 + shipping.
[17 Dripples prints in lottery – 11 Main Edition (edition of 65), 3 Yellow (edition of 3), 1 Pink (edition of 2), 1 Red (edition of 2), 1 Green (edition of 2)]

– Keep in mind, none of these prints are mint as they were handled so much by the artist’s inky hands in the printing process and traveling across the country back to the studio. Expect blemishes and imperfections if you should be selected to purchase one of them.

• Interested customers may enter the purchasing lottery only once by posting a comment with their top 2 choices of the exact color editions their interested in.
• You can post anonymously, but be sure to use your Paypal email address. (Also, mention if you’re International shipping)
• Customers will be selected randomly, and invoices will be sent through Paypal.
• Invoices will start going out as soon as we get 100 entries and sporadically through out the afternoon and evening.
• If you’re comment doesn’t show up, it got caught up in our extra-tight spam filter. We will dig you out before we start picking “winning” customers. (though, feel free to email us if you don’t see it to remind us)
• Things that will increase your odds of not being selected as a customer would be: Commenting more than once or not clearly selecting 2 options. Using aliases is also highly annoying and we’ve banned a handful for trying it.

“Five Birds” & “Dripples” screen prints hand pulled at the Union for Comtemporary Art in Omaha

Recently I spent a week in Omaha at The Union for Contemporary Art and printed in their shop that my good friend, Joshua Norton, constructed and supervises. While I’ve had 1000’s of my screen prints produced by Monolith Press and others over my career, it’s been about 10 years since I’ve been involved in the actual printing process. It was a good opportunity for me to experiment and learn from hand-pulling the prints, making the screens and mixing inks, but it took me a few days to get the hang of it again. Special thanks goes out to Joshua and The Union for being such gracious hosts – I suggest you check out their work too.

I set out to make two editions, but as it turned out I ended up spending most all of my time dinking around with my first print, a 10 color screen print entitled “Five Birds”. There is a total of only 33 signed and numbered Five Birds prints in the final editions(20 Green, 9 White & 4 Pink). Each print is slightly unique and imperfect. About one third of these Five Birds prints will be offered up in a purchasing lottery this Wednesday (A new lottery post with directions will be posted)…..the rest will slowly pop up in galleries, lotteries and auctions. They will be pricier than my typical screen prints due to their extremely limited quantities.

With the time we had remaining at the print shop, after I finally finished the Five Birds prints, Joshua took the helm to help us kick out a diverse edition of “Dripples”, from a drawing I had in my sketchbook. The printing process for these was quite loose with mixing colors and consistency, a late night jam accompanied by this guy. We’ve given each Dripples print a little extra love with pencils and markers making them all unique. A portion of these prints will be included in Wednesday’s purchasing lottery.

I was inspired by the process of creating these screen prints on the fly at the Union, and I hope to be able to focus some attention on another hand pulled edition soon – I’ll make more next time! I would like make a note to interested customers that the prints that came out of my time at the Union all have imperfections of some kind, like tiny ink splotches or dinged corners, that came about in the handling of the prints and working through the processes. I’m proud of the prints we hand pulled in Omaha, but they do have a very different quality than my screen prints from Monolith Press.

After we get some of these Union screen prints out to randomly selected customers, we have plans to release many larger editions in the next few months. There’s a new 12″ x 12″ art print we just picked up from Monolith, another very long art print taken from a poster, a few mini prints that got bumped up into full sized editions and there’s a new variety of shirts from a classic design coming soon as well. Oh, then there’s those Widespread Vegas posters some of you have been asking about, we’ll get to them eventually too. One thing at a time…stop by on Wednesdays to see what’s new. There will be an email announcement for some of the new releases and the Panic poster sale.

Thanks for your support…much to come.

Dogfish Head x Record Store Day

We are excited to announce this merging of many awesome things.
Dogfish Head and Record Store Day have teamed up this year and asked me to create some artwork which adorns a special edition turntable as well as posters and other promotions.

I spend most my days in the studio playing vinyl, sometimes treating myself to a Dogfish Head beer while enjoying my record collection, so this project has tickled my soul. Let the music play…

Seven Birds screen prints

These Seven Birds are now being made available in this 10″ x 12″ screen print edition. The main edition of 150 is printed on a dark metallic silver paper, and is split into two colorways (green or red bird).

The Seven Birds prints will be released in the Spusta Studio Shop tomorrow, Wednesday, February 18th after 1pm PST, with some inventory being held back for release later in the evening. The prints will cost $37 and customers can choose either a red or green bird in the product options. The Squash Edition will be released in the Shop as well…but those will be gone in a blink.

Embellished White Prints – Lottery Sale

On a rainy weekend here at the studio I started digging through some old boxes of prints that hadn’t made it into the editions for one reason or another. I pulled out some unique gems and white proofs and began to embellish them with pencils, markers and paints, eventually pulling together a nice little collection of one-of-a-kind APs. I would now like to get those prints into your hands, but there may be a lot of you, so today’s sale will be conducted as a lottery.

The pop-up gallery (click on image above) will have basic details for each print. All prints are embellished by the me…some are just colored accents, while others have small additions. Many of the prints are on a natural white stock that Monolith Press uses when they dial in the ink colors and registration. Very few of these white proofs exist and most of them seem to have slight dings or imperfections (potential customers please note). But with a little love they turned into something special.

We broke the stack of embellished APs into two price categories to keep things simple.
Small  Prints (Plootuffels, Mr.Bloomjangles, Inspired) = $90 + shipping.
Larger Prints (Elder, In This Together, Bliss Bug, Slow, Sproutlings) = $140 + shipping.

Also please note, there are five different Plootuffels and Tapooflet in a White Edition (of 12) available, but only one pictured. You may choose the one pictured, or you can go for “Blind” and randomly get one of the other four not pictured.

There are also two different Mr.Bloomjangles available, so label the second one accordingly if you are choosing that one.

Here’s how we would like potential customers to enter the purchasing lottery:

• Interested customers may enter the purchasing lottery only once by posting a comment with their choice of which ONE of the prints they’re most interested in purchasing.
• You can post anonymously, but be sure to use your Paypal email address. (Also, mention if you’re International shipping)
• Customers will be selected randomly, and invoices will be sent through Paypal.
• Invoices will start going out Wednesday afternoon.
• If you’re comment doesn’t show up, it got caught up in our extra-tight spam filter. We will dig you out before we start picking “winning” customers.
• Things that will increase your odds of not being selected as a customer would be: Commenting more than once, picking more than one choice, or no choices at all. Using aliases is also highly annoying and we’ve banned a handful for trying it.

A small stack of The Tree & We prints being sold, lottery style.

We were very happy to recently discover a box of the long sold-out, often requested Tree & We prints. This seven color screen print from 2012, is one of Marq’s biggest to date at 23″ x 23″ and contains too many critters to count. The artwork also experienced a rebirth in 2014 when it became the cover for the new J Mascis album, Tied to a Star.

There are only twelve copies of the print that we are able to offer up to you folks here, in the format of a purchasing lottery. We expect the demand to be rather high for these, and we all wish there were more to go around. Most of the editions were sold years ago. In other words…don’t get your hopes up too much in this lottery.

There are 5 versions of this print, and we have at least 1 of each available. You can view each edition in the photo gallery above.

The editions and prices are as follows:
Main Edition of 150 (6 available) = $150 + shipping.
Chlorophyll Edition of 25 (2 available) = $245 + shipping.
Yellow Green Edition of 25 (2 available) = $245 + shipping.
Opal Edition of 6 (1 available) = $300 + shipping.
Amber Edition of 5 (1 available) = $300 + shipping.

Here’s how we would like potential customers to enter the purchasing lottery:

• Interested customers may enter the purchasing lottery only once by posting a comment with their choice of which ONE of the five versions of the print they’re most interested in purchasing.
• You can post anonymously, but be sure to use your Paypal email address. (Also, mention if you’re International shipping)
• Customers will be selected randomly, and invoices will be sent through Paypal.
• Invoices will start going out shortly after this post goes live, and throughout our West Coast evening.
